Sunflowers

Be

She tries to be small.
She forced her body into itself
so he could pass.
The trail was narrow and
her walking stick drew close,
instinctively.

She knew they would bump bodies as he passed.
She isn’t fat – or even big – she just IS.
Her mama taught her that
shrinking violets hold no draw
and sunflowers expose the light.

After the walk, she decided to look for sunflowers.
Some were wary
but they couldn’t resist her,
knowing.
